Across Horticulture Leadership Training

Horticulture Australia Limited (HAL), in conjunction with AgriFood Skills Australia, is seeking proposals for the development and delivery of leadership training for growers and other industry members within the horticulture industries. The aim is to:

  • Scope and pilot leadership training in horticulture for potential rollout in other rural sectors
  • Improve the ability of growers and other industry members to lead, guide and provide strategic direction for the industry
  • Increase the capacity of growers to fill roles of responsibility within regional, state and/or national grower organisations and related bodies
  • Increase the knowledge of industry representation, hierarchy and relationships leading to improved cooperation and collaboration within and between horticulture industries, government and the supply chain
  • Increase the understanding of strategy building, governance and accountability
  • Improve succession planning and mentoring in relation to leadership roles
  • Provide opportunities for younger people to improve their leadership skills and connect with industry leaders.

If successful, opportunities for rollout in other agriculture sectors and/or continuing the training within horticulture into 2013 will be considered.

Proposals are to be submitted to HAL by 5.00pm Thursday 5 April 2012 and should detail expected outputs and outcomes from the training. This will include anticipated participant numbers and location of training as well as the level of capability to be achieved by participants in the areas of communication, management and strategy.

The leadership training is to be delivered during 2012. A budget range of $120,000 - $140,000 has been allocated and should cover the development of promotional and training material as well as presentation, venue, delivery and evaluation costs.

HAL and AgriFood Skills Australia are looking for innovative approaches to the delivery of leadership training that provides value for money across the horticulture industries represented by HAL. The anticipated reach or number of participants will be assessed along with the depth of the training proposed.  The opportunity for linking into and/or building on existing leadership training programs is encouraged.
